wrong Maximonster. Pets *do* evolve. It has been tested by players on other GW forums and they have found that evolutions do effect the hp/damage of your pet. You will only know what evolution your pet is if you have never named your pet - once you change the default name of the pet you'll never know what evolution it's on.

Look in the Ranger section of the GWOnline forums. I'd direct link to the thread but I still don't know if thats allowed here on these forums *looks for a mod to answer that*

The evolution's are something like this:

Playful - +30 health, -1 damage
Hearty - +60 health, -2 damage
Aggressive - -30 health, +1 damage
Dire - -60 health, +2 damage
Elder - +3 damage, ?? health (based on what I've read.. no-one seems 100% sure)

the evolutions go approx as follows:

playful -> hearty -> elder
hearty -> elder (supposedly)
aggressive -> dire & apparently -> elder

Every pet is supposedly able to get to the Elder evolution. the Elder evolution might be the same no-mater what route you got, or might be an extension of the route you took. who knows - but this is why the Elder spider from UW is the best pet.. it's lvl 20 and already on the best/highest evolution.

But as I said, if you have re-named a pet.. you'll never see what evolution it is on. Also, because we can't see actual damage from pets.. no-one can be 100% sure about this. The above information was collected by testing - this means fighting ans seeing how fast/slow pets killed, how fast/slow they got killed, etc. If you know the AL of your pet and what damage a critter does.. you can quickly work out hp of pets, as well as being able to work out damage pets do just by seeing how many pet attacks it takes to kill a critter who you know to have x health. This means you can test evolutions - ie if you know that say a snow wolf would take 10 attacks to kill a grawl, but a aggressive snow wolf takes 9 attacks then the aggressive wolf is doing + damage.. taking into account same BM level's, same lvl pet's, etc.

Speaking of Elder pets, I find it pretty weird that the only enemies with pets are up near the Granite Citadel, Stone Summit rangers with Elder Wolves. I guess those are the only dwarves that bothered to learn Charm Animal

this is intersting indeed. if there is an evolution that be cracy and indeed makes some tight possiblities. i just hope that they expand game in the expansion and inlcude more pets cracy looking ones. wouldnt it be tight to capture a titan.

Mavrik - it seems that if you heal your pet a lot and/or use damage reduction pet skills a lot you will tend to go along the playful -> hearty -> elder route.. while if you hardly heal your pet, are in the think of things.. you'll tend to go along the aggressive -> dire route.

That seems to be the general consensus of pet user's who believe in evolutions. I know my ranger's Wolf is going on the Playful route... and I used Comfort Animal a lot whenever it got injured.

Kyle - nope. Sadly once you re-name a pet your stuck with that name. Whatever oet you get it will have that name. and pet evolution's don't show on player made/edited names.. Only way to fix it currently is to delete the character and re-make the ranger.. ewhich isn't that good of an option ;/
